HOW TO REMOVE BURNED FOOD STACK TO THE BOTTOM OF A CAST IRON FRYING PAN & SKILLETS
The other day I was visiting a friend and I noticed the way she was cleaning her cast-iron frying pan and of course, I had to learn.
She said it was much worse when she started with but we still can see something stacked to the bottom.
THESE ARE HER INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1 - As one finishes using the frying pan, pour coarse salt into it (she just used a bit of oil to fry her meat so did not have much grease), give a bit of a gentle but firm scrub with a dry cloth (be very careful, the pan will be hot)
NOTE - VERY IMPORTANT - Once you finish cooking with a cast iron pan ALWAYS LET IT COLL DOWN if you are going to go to rinse in water, otherwise it can crack.
STEP 2 - Once you can not see any more burned food stack to the bottom of the frying pan, get a plastic dry container (make sure it is dry ) pour the salt into the container and store it away so you can use it next time.
STEP 3 - Give one last scrub to remove any salt and rinse it in hot water (do not be tempted to add detergent. You do not want to remove the oil from the pan .)
STEP 4 - Heat the pan for a tiny bit, in order to make sure is completely dry. Once it is dry add a bit of vegetable oil to a piece of paper and go around the frying pan, oiling it until you can see it is shining. (BE VERY CAREFUL the pan might be very hot and you do not want to get burned)
Very shiny and ready to be used next time.
FYI - THIS IS A VERY, VERY OLD FRYING PAN AND BECAUSE SO MUCH ATTENTION AND LOVE HAS BEEN PUT INTO LOOKING AFTER HER, IT DOES NOT NEED MUCH OIL IN ORDER TO COOK WITH IT AND TO BE FAIR IT LOOKS PRETTY GOOD.
NOTE in order for your frying pan to last a life time avoid cooking tomatoes and any acidic foods
