HOW CAN I MOVE A BIG RUG INTO PLACE ON MY OWN

A long time ago I made this lovely old lady laugh so much when I was trying to push a rug into place. It was a huge rug and was out of place. She had asked me if I could do it and I said yes (I was very young then ). As I got hold of the rug to move, it felt like the rug was glued to the carpet underneath ( I did not expect the rug to show so much resistance )so the rug escaped from my hands and I ended up hitting my bum very hard on the floor.

After all these years I still can hear a sweet and kind voice teaching me how to maneuver a rug into place with only one hand. She did so gracefully, that it looked like the rug was flying.

Pay attention she said " the trick is in the wrist, hold the rug delicately, give a little flick of the wrist upwards and downwards like you are making a wave and at the same time pull the rug towards you. Do not pull too hard (she said gently). If you do that, the all rug will be come flying towards your direction and you are going to hit your bum on the floor again"

After a couple of tries, I managed to do nearly perfectly but the fringe of the rug was all over the place.

“Now”, she said "too straight the fringe up, is very easy, just hold the end of the rug and flick towards the middle ( remember to use the wrist maneuver, this time from left to right and then right to left) of the rug then flick it back into place.

" If in the end the fringe needs a bit of straitening in up, use your fingers as a comb. "
