WHY DO I KEEP HAVING WATER AT THE BOTTOM OF MY FRIDGE?

A friend of mine rang me a while back asking me if I knew why her fridge was always with water at the bottom of it. She would clean the fridge, and dry out the bottom of the fridge but she said water would appear a couple of days afterward she had cleaned it and nothing was leaking in the fridge.

She was pretty puzzled.

Well, if that ever happens to you, have a look at the pictures below and see if that is your problem also.

SOLVING THE PROBLEM

STEP 1 - Remove all food and shelves from the fridge and have a look inside the fridge for a tiny drip hole at the back of it. (that hole is a drain for the water to drain out into a water deposit that is fitted outside the fridge. (I can not show it to you because the fridge is fitted). As you find the hole you also will see a green plastic stick inside.

STEP 2 - Remove the green plastic stick from the hole and have a look at it. See if it comes out dirty and if you can see water at the beginning of the hole, like the one in the picture below, that means the drain is blocked.

STEP 3 - Get a bit of kitchen paper, wrap the green plastic stick inside the paper and gently insert it inside the hole, trying to go around clockwise and anticlockwise. FYI - The first time you insert the paper and the stick inside the hole, you might not see any dirt coming out because the paper might come out very wet.

STEP 4 - Sadly you have to try step 3 all over again . You probably will have to do step 3 a couple of times until the paper come out completely clean.

STEP 5 - Once the paper comes out dry, use a litle bottle brush to remove what is dipper in to the drain.

STEP 6 - Give a wipe to the draining ledges, and replace the green plastic stick into its own place.

NOTE - As all food is out of the fridge might as well give a good clean inside and outside ( I like to put a drop of white vinegar to remove any bad smells and also to remove any watermarks), replace the paper in the vegetable/fruit drawer (I know the paper is not properly done but I was running very late)

VERY IMPORTANT - When storing food in the fridge, make sure no food or food packaging are touching the back of the fridge.
