HOW TO REMOVE OLD CANDLE WAX FROM A CANDLESTICK
Ok, we are having friends for dinner and we want to impress. So the best china is out, the crystal glasses are very shiny and let’s use grandmother's old glass candlestick (it is a family heirloom so great care is needed)
If I was using the same colour of candles I would not border to change but I want to change from green to red, so let's do it.
STEP 1 - Let’s see if the old wax comes out easily. NOP, it is really stack. (Whatever you do do not use sharp things, they will scratch the glass)
STEP 2 - Open the hot tap and let it run for a bit, (ok I know is a waste of water but is better safe than sorry) and with my finger, I fill the water heating it up. When I fill it is hot enough just to make the wax soft (do not want to melt the wax), fill the little cup on the candlestick and let the warm water do her job.
STEP 3 - As I see bits of wax coming to the surface, it is time to go very gently with fingernail and see if the old wax come up.
FYI - I can see lots of little bits of wax floating, no way a can remove them safely and I do not want to pour them down the drain (for sure I will end up with a blocked drain and for sure a very expensive bill from a plumber)
STEP 4 - I get a little strainer, put a piece of kitchen paper on top of the strainer and stained the wax in the water. Now I have a nice and wax-free candlestick
NOTE - Make sure you use a very soft cloth to dry the candlestick.
