HOW TO LOOK AFTER WOVEN OR EMBROIDERED OLD RUGS
Old rugs are precious. Either because of the value they have or the beautiful memory’s they bring from friends or family members they belonged previously.
So do take good care of them.
I love old rugs and I’m always aware of the memories they bring. This is my way of looking after them
STEP 1 - Never use the hoover on full blast, I always make sure is on the lowest setting possible.
STEP 2 - Never hoover the fringe, if they have one I tend to give a bit of a shake
STEP 3 - Try not to move the rugs too much about. If I’m going to move them, I make sure to roll them up, NEVER fold them.
STEP 4 - When the time comes to hoover them underneath and they are on top of carpets I fold the outsides inside and make a roll, that way I can just roll it out of place, hover it underneath and roll it back without too much effort.
STEP 5 - Take good care when removing stains. The colour of some threads in rugs can run. So never use too much water and if any liquid gets spilled into it, dry it straightway by pressing. Start by putting a towel underneath the rug where the wet patch is and on top of the rug put either an old white cloth or kitchen paper and by putting your wrist on the wet bit and start pressing and as you press start flatting your hand, move the hand forward and do the same movement again, do it until you can fill the rug is dry. Whatever you do NOT rub it.
